Each year we want to be more efficient, effective and productive so we can be more balanced and be our best. \u00a0It&#8217;s the combination of many tools, tips and techniques that help us with our productivity. \u00a0Review this list of 14 productivity tips for 2014 and see the strategies you are already using \u00a0and those you would like to use to create a new habit.<\/p>\n<p>1. \u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Commit to a <a title=\"planner and calendars\" href=\"http:\/\/http:\/\/professional-organizer.com\/WordPress\/2012\/12\/30\/organizing-tools-your-calendarplanner\/\" target=\"_blank\">calendar<\/a> you love.<\/span> \u00a0A calendar not only helps you keep track of meetings and tasks, it also helps you create a plan for your week, month and year.<\/p>\n<p>2. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Record recurring events on your calendar to remind you about important dates. \u00a0<\/span>These can include credit card and bill paying dates, expense and health flex plan due dates, and birthdays. \u00a0Using your calendar as a tool for tracking doubles its value to you.<\/p>\n<p>3. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Lists make life easier.<\/span> Write stuff down to be free up your mind and be ready to work. \u00a0 Use a spiral notebook or Evernote for lists. \u00a0Move tasks from email, post-it notes, voice mail or texts to one list to keep track of all you need to accomplish.<\/p>\n<p>4. \u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Create <a title=\"Checklists\" href=\"http:\/\/professional-organizer.com\/WordPress\/2011\/04\/04\/checklists\/\" target=\"_blank\">checklists<\/a> for weekly and monthly activities at home and at work.<\/span> \u00a0Checklists are a great way to not re-invent the wheel. \u00a0It keeps you on track for projects and tasks that occur regularly, as well as getting things done throughout the week. \u00a0Easy to use checklists include grocery lists, travel lists, bill paying ledgers, and end of the month work checklists.<\/p>\n<p>5. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Choose the top \u00a0three of your Most Important Tasks (MITs) each day to accomplish.<\/span> \u00a0How do you know what&#8217;s most important? It is the priorities you set. \u00a0In business it is usually about finances. Personally it is about family and values. \u00a0Choosing just three MITs a day ensures your success. \u00a0Whatever is the first task of the day is the one task you can be sure will be accomplished.<\/p>\n<p>6. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Set up a Power Period each day, as least once a day, without distractions. \u00a0<\/span> A power period helps you get tasks done, helps you be more creative, and helps you complete difficult tasks and projects.<\/p>\n<p>7. \u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Triage <a title=\"Email overload\" href=\"http:\/\/professional-organizer.com\/WordPress\/2009\/12\/12\/email-overload\/\" target=\"_blank\">email<\/a>\u00a0three times daily and add tasks from email to your action list. \u00a0<\/span>It&#8217;s easy to spend too much time on email so keep to a schedule to use your time more effectively.<\/p>\n<p>8. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Create a <a title=\"Command center\" href=\"http:\/\/professional-organizer.com\/WordPress\/2013\/09\/19\/organize-your-papers-with-a-command-center\/\" target=\"_blank\">command center <\/a>for your papers.<\/span> \u00a0 Triage papers daily and set a one hour weekly admin time for paper at home. \u00a0Having a center where papers that require action are altogether makes it easy to find them and do what is required. \u00a0Spending a little time daily and one hour weekly helps make sure nothing falls through the cracks.<\/p>\n<p>9. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Establish <a title=\"Routines and patterning our days\" href=\"http:\/\/www.professional-organizer.com\/tips_patterning_days.html\" target=\"_blank\">weekly routine<\/a>s at home and work<\/span>. \u00a0At home these include what days are grocery shopping and laundry. \u00a0At work these include weekly reports and staff meetings. \u00a0You can assign days like Money Monday, Wash it Wednesday or Financial Friday to keep it fun too! Write these on a checklist where you can see your assignments for you and your family.<\/p>\n<p>10. \u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Leave a little white space in your calendar for relaxation and rejuvenation.<\/span> \u00a0Many tasks do not go as planned. \u00a0Back to back activities wear us down. \u00a0Having a little time between tasks and activities lowers your stress.<\/p>\n<p>11. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Declutter your purse, satchel, backpack and your car weekly.<\/span> \u00a0Declutter your purse at your command center. \u00a0Declutter your car while you are getting gas. \u00a0Help your kids declutter their backpacks into their binders. \u00a0It takes just a few minutes to do. Sometimes it is just trash that needs to be tossed, addresses and contacts to put in your smart phone, and cosmetics to put away. \u00a0Just five minutes makes all the difference.<\/p>\n<p>12. \u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Host a weekly family meeting<\/span>. \u00a0<a title=\"Family meeting\" href=\"http:\/\/professional-organizer.com\/WordPress\/2014\/01\/01\/3-tips-productive-family-meeting\/\" target=\"_blank\">Family meetings<\/a> are when everyone shares what is going on and what they need to accomplish. \u00a0It creates family cohesiveness and a team effort.<\/p>\n<p>13.\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Post a family calendar in the kitchen for everyone to add their activities and remind everyone of upcoming events.<\/span> \u00a0Your family calendar helps everyone work together and be on top of upcoming activities.<\/p>\n<p>14. \u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Create <a title=\"delegating, team building and partnerships\" href=\"http:\/\/professional-organizer.com\/WordPress\/2010\/02\/22\/delegating-and-team-building-at-home\/\" target=\"_blank\">partnerships <\/a>at home and work.<\/span> \u00a0We are all especially good at some things and not very good at other things. \u00a0 When you are partnering, both you and your partners strengths come out, work gets accomplished more quickly and its more fun. \u00a0Partnerships at home include making dinner, doing the laundry and doing the dishes.
