Here are 25 ways to get ready for the holidays so you can spend less time worrying and more time celebrating.
Home & Décor
- Declutter before decorating . It is time to refresh you space before you start to decorate. Clear out old or unused items so your home feels fresh and ready for seasonal décor. Let go of decor you have not used in several years.
- Check your holiday decorations. Inventory what you have so you know what you need. Test lights, organize ornaments, and repair or replace anything broken.
- Think through your decorating plan. Each year brings a new approach to your decorating. Update your plan and decide which areas of your home you’ll decorate. Remember to keep it simple if you have less time and energy.
- Set up a wrapping station. Make it easy and fun to do the required tasks. A wrapping station consolidates all your tools and materials. Keep tape, scissors, tags, and wrapping paper in one place.
- Gather a team for cleaning and decorating. Remember that a team effort will help you enjoy the time together and be efficient.

It’s hard to believe that it’s already the holiday season! My brain is still in early fall mode, but Halloween and Thanksgiving will be here before we know it. I love your list of things to think about.
Each year, I try to simplify things more and more. I love hosting family gatherings, and I’m always looking for ways to make them easier. It helps to enlist help. Thank goodness for the kiddos and their help. I’m so grateful.
One of the things that helps when it comes to hosting is referring to lists from previous years, which I update. It also helps to identify the next step. For Thanksgiving, it’s getting out the evites. I’m not ready to plan the meal and house prep stuff yet, but soon.
It feels far away, but Christmas is now fewer than three months away. Crazy! I do think October is sort of the “key” month for getting ahead of the craziness. I always try and order my cards during this month, and I’ve done a bit of shopping. The older I get, the more I think of “one gift” that would be good for everyone on my list. 🙂
Getting the holiday activity plans down now is also so helpful. I was just talking with my husband about this. Anything requiring tickets should be done now!
Getting started with what you can start early is key to lowering holiday stress!
We do that too! We love our traditional holiday food and everyone who attends brings the same items each year. Nothing like making life easier with lists!
